This one is so massive it is already being described as a city with temperature control. It will be named Mall of the World and will cover 48 million square feet. This may seem to be a waste of time to Americans who have witnessed a decline in their own malls due to the recession. However, Dubai is the shopping hub for the wealthy and famous. Super-wealthy Chinese tourists hail it as one of their top three destinations. The country boasts the tallest building globally, the largest indoor snow park globally and the largest shopping mall globally.
The Dubai Mall received 75m visitors annually. This is more than Niagara Falls, Disney World and the Eiffel Tower combined. The Mall of the World will retain this shopping momentum. No date has been provided for the commencement of construction or total cost. It will include the largest indoor theme park globally which will be placed below a glass dome as protection from the searing Dubai heat. It will be climate-controlled, with around 100 hotels and serviced apartments. A theatre district and ‘wellness’ area for medical tourists will be included.
