Across the nation, innovative developers and architects are reinventing what’s possible when it comes to the exciting world of new development right before our eyes. Some absolutely breathtaking projects have already been completed, and there are numerous others in the pipeline.
At the forefront of the innovation are some dazzling mixed-use projects that have helped to transform entire cities. These developments take the concept of live, work and play a little bit further, and merge those ideas with the classic concept of a town center type project. However, these town centers aren’t anything like the ones you’ll find in the annals of history books, but rather transcendent developments that revitalize the entire surrounding community.
Here’s a look at five of the most exciting developments either in the pipeline or under construction across the nation.
Developer Thomas Properties Group had visions of reimagining Downtown LA, and it looks like they’ve done their part with this gem. The Wilshire Grand Center is an upscale world-class 73-story skyscraper that is slated for opening in 2017. It will be the tallest structure on the LA skyline upon completion, and will feature a 900-room hotel, restaurants, business and a bustling nightlife scene.
Seaport Square from Boston Global Investors will cover an absolutely massive section of 23 acres along the Boston waterfront. New buildings, streets, and gathering areas will transform the area into a vibrant, walkable community. The entire project is scheduled to be wrapped up by 2020, and will feature extensive residential, office, retail, hotel and public components.
Swire Properties is developing a massive mixed-use project that’s referred to as ‘chic and cosmopolitan.’ Judging by the early looks at the massive urban mixed-use center known as Brickell City Centre, that’s an apt description. Condo towers, office towers, hotel and a massive dine-in movie theater are among the development features, which will be centered by a massive five-level retail space.
Hoffman-Madison Waterfront has plans in the works to reinvent the southwest waterfront in Washington DC, and this massive project appears well on its way to living up to its billing. The massive project will feature upon completion an entertainment street, multiple piers, and a concert hall. In addition, The Wharf will offer up a wealth of residential, office, hotel, retail and cultural space.
Also known as 175 Greenwich Street, Three World Trade Center from Silverstein Properties is scheduled to deliver in 2018. The skyscraper will span 80 floors, the first five of which will be reserved for retail. The remainder of the building will be designated for office use, and you can expect some absolutely breathtaking views of the New York City skyline.
These are just five of the incredible developments that have helped to transform the landscape of entire metropolitan areas. Dozens more are in the works, and we may look back on this period as the beginning of a renaissance in the world of development.
