Constructed in 1967, Gropius Passagen has undergone several extensions and refurbishments. With letable area of 100,000 square meter the property is the largest shopping center in Berlin and features a diverse set of 150 stores, including anchor tenants Kaufland, Peek & Cloppenburg, H&M, Galeria Kaufhof, C&A, Douglas Group and a UCI Cinema. The complex also has a large selection of restaurants and cafes.
The mall is curently going under revitalisation works. Following its completion, which is scheduled for autumn 2015, the fashion mall will become home to around 30 new shops for international fashion brands. Moreover, the fashion mall will feature a modern gastronomy concept including a large south-facing outdoor area. Located in the borough of Neukölln and completed in the 1990s, the shopping centre will be radically modernised according to plans by the prestigious architectural team Saguez & Partner in Paris and Aukett und Heese in Berlin.
The mall is located a bit outside of Berlin center, at the south end of the Neukön district.
It includes more than 2,000 parking spaces and is strategically located near public transportation, including a direct link into the U-Bahn (U7) station, which connects to Berlin’s circle line. Gropius Passagen is located in a densely populated residential district just north of the soon-to-be-completed Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport.
The entrance areas, after the modernization and extension works that the mall is going through will be overhauled, the mall will be modernised including new floor coverings and a new lighting and ceiling concept, and the retail units – around 140 today – will be grouped into new distinctly structured shopping zones. The architectonic theme guiding the structural alteration is “light and nature.”
