The two-level retail space will combine more than 10,000 children’s products, its ice cream parlor, and a two-story slide.

Bankrupt Toys R Us, formerly the largest children’s toy retailer in the U.S. market, is preparing to open its flagship store at the American Dream mall in New Jersey.
The two-level retail space will combine more than 10,000 children’s products, its ice cream parlor, and a two-story slide. The flagship is scheduled to open in mid-December 2021 officially.
“Toys R Us is coming back, and coming back in a big way; this will be our largest store in America,” commented Yehuda Schmidman, chairman and CEO of WHP Global and Toys R Us.
For the legendary brand, this is its second attempt at revival. After going bankrupt and closing all stores in 2017, Toys R Us opened its first two pop-up stores in Paramus, New Jersey, and Houston, and both stores operated until early 2021.
In the spring, New York-listed WHP Global became the company’s new owner, acquiring a majority stake in Tru Kids, the former parent company of the Toys R Us brand.
“I don’t think Toys R Us needs restructuring as a brand because it’s great.” We’re just trying to bring it back to America and do it with modern distribution,” Schmidman added in an interview with USA Today.
Information about a possible Toys R Us opening surfaced back in the fall. American Dream said the store opening would serve as a “perfect complement” to the mall’s line of entertainment and attractions. The store will open next door to the Nickelodeon Universe theme park and the DreamWorks water park. Other interests at the mall include Legoland Discovery Center, Sea Life Aquarium, and Big Snow Ski Hill.
It was also previously reported that Toys R Us intends to open corners in 400 department stores managed by Macy’s in 2022.
