Poland joins a list of European countries that are tightening existing restrictions and re-imposing quarantines. The republic government decided to declare a complete lockdown from December 28, 2020, to January 17, 2021, on the background of a growing number of diseases and a worsening epidemiological situation in the country.
The Polish Ministry of Health announced that in addition to the restrictions already in place for businesses and citizens throughout the country, hotels and restaurants would be closed, including those aimed at business travelers. Catering establishments and educational institutions are being closed.
“I urge every Pole to make himself responsible for himself and his loved ones.” I know that these appeals will not help,” commented the head of the Ministry of Health of Poland, Adam Niedzielski.
As of December 28, all shopping malls and retail stores will be closed in Poland, except for outlets that specialize in selling food and necessities. Restrictions will be in place until mid-January, with the possibility of extensions depending on the dynamics of the disease in the country.
The authorities have also decided to introduce additional restrictive measures on New Year’s Eve. From 9 pm on December 31 until 6 am on January 1, a nationwide curfew will be introduced. As of mid-December, the total number of ill people in the country is estimated at 1.17 million.
