Popeyes eatery chain enters the British market

The American fast-food restaurant chain specializing in chicken dishes has announced its intention to start developing the British market.

According to an official statement from Popeyes, the company plans to enter the new British market and will open its first location by the end of the year. The company has not yet decided about the precise location of the first restaurant. But it has already announced plans to open 350 eateries around the country over the next ten years. Besides, the chain will open cafes in major metropolitan centers and suburban areas. 

According to Business Insider, citing David Scheer, global president of parent company Popeyes Restaurant Brands International, consumers will also be able to order food using its mobile app or various delivery services. When asked if the brand's U.K. restaurants would be different from its U.S. counterparts, Scheer was evasive, saying that the company would "differentiate itself based on product quality alone."

Popeyes is a significant player in the "chicken fast food" market. According to an official press release, the company is firmly in second place behind KFC. Today, Popeyes has more than 3,400 branches worldwide, the vast majority of which operate under the franchise model.

The U.K. will be Popeyes' fourth European market, following launches in Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey. And in May 2020, the company opened its first restaurant in China, where it also plans a significant expansion.
