The store has been operating in the Windy City Center for ten years.
American fashion retailer Old Navy has closed its flagship store in Chicago. The mono store, located on N. State Street downtown, has closed after ten years in business.
At the same time, experts note another blow to the Windy City street retail. DSW, Urban Outfitters, and New York & Company have previously closed downtown. And Uniqlo, Gap, Topshop, Banana Republic, and Cartier have also left since the pandemic began.
"We regularly and thoughtfully review our real estate to support the best path forward for our brand and Gap Inc. Our Old Navy State Street location will close on Tuesday, 1/24," Old Navy commented. The closure leaves Old Navy with several stores in Chicago, including the Roosevelt Collection, North & Kingsbury, and Riverpoint Center.
The potential closure of the flagship first came to light in July 2021 when consultants fr om CBRE reported on the pending sale of the 32,000 sq. foot space. Until 2012, the area was home to multi-brand Borders, which was replaced by Old Navy, which moved to the new location from 35 N. State, wh ere Primark currently operates. What kind of store might open on Old Navy's site has yet to be disclosed.
