The low-cost collection of lighting from IKEA includes smart bulbs, cabinet panels and doors that can be controlled by remote.
For the line of intelligent lighting, IKEA chooses the original name Trådfri, which is traditional for the company's products. That is not the first Smart-device from the Swedish retailer, about two years ago, the company presented furniture with built-in wireless charging, which came in the limited sale. Today IKEA offers primarily a series of LED lamps with adjustable brightness, which can be purchased separately or as a set of plug-and-play. It is important that all lights can be brought home and connected without special configuration and electrical wiring.
Lighting control is the first step to creating a smart home, for which many different devices have been designed. An application for smartphones usually manages smart-lamps, but IKEA makes this process easier. All kits include a small remote control reminding of many solutions with one button for a smart home.
The remote control allows to switch from cold to warm light, or from bright light to softer. Another switch that comes in black, white or yellow, can be mounted on the wall or carried around the house, it allows to switch between bright and soft light.
"Easy dimming is our starting point, and simplicity is key for many people," says Burne Bloch, Business Leader of IKEA Home Smart. "Therefore we believe that a pre-paired bulb and wireless remote is a great starting point enabling dimming of any lamp in your home, without requiring any installation or downloading of an app." Nevertheless, the company has developed a free application Trådfri for Android and iOS. The application offers more advanced features, such as personal lighting settings and modes, as well as a timer.
The Trådfri line includes smart light doors and panels that will help to create a feeling of daylight in the room. The Surte light doors are ideal for Ikea's Bestå cabinets, and Jormlien light doors fit for Sektion kitchens. The Floalt light panels, available in three sizes, can be installed on the wall and ceiling. Order Trådfri light will be available in England and the US in April.
