Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield in the UK is the first mall, possibly globally, to introduce shopping lanes – one for the fast shoppers and one for the slow ones.
This decision came about after a 10-year-old complained in a school letter-writing exercise that she often found herself stuck behind slow shoppers. She said that it makes her want to scream with frustration.
The owners of the mall saw this letter as a super PR opportunity and stated that they loved obtaining feedback from younger shoppers. This prompted the team to trial the lane system by installing an overtaking lane for the fast walkers.
