Waterway Point opened on 23 February 2016 at 83 Punggol Central in the Punggol new town with 41,000 sqm of retail area across five levels integrated with Punggol MRT station and the Punggol Bus Interchange. The property is owned and managed by Frasers Centrepoint Trust (FCT) as the Punggol district retail anchor within the FCT northeastern Singapore portfolio.
Punggol is Singapore’s newest planned new town, developed from 2010 as a smart and sustainable waterfront community on the northeastern tip of the island. The residential catchment of approximately 200,000 residents is the youngest demographic in Singapore by median age, primarily young families in their first or second HDB flat who represent the highest concentration of households in the 25-40 age bracket in any Singapore planning area. The Punggol Digital District, currently under development adjacent to Waterway Point, will bring a technology and innovation employment cluster with major tenants including Singapore Institute of Technology and several technology companies, adding a daytime worker catchment to the existing residential base. NTUC FairPrice Finest anchors the grocery programming. Shaw Theatres operates the multiplex cinema. H&M, Uniqlo, Cotton On, and Charles & Keith cover the mainstream fashion register. The alfresco waterfront dining terrace overlooks the Punggol Waterway, adding an outdoor lifestyle dimension to the F&B offer.
Punggol MRT station on the North-East Line terminus is immediately adjacent, and the Punggol LRT network connects to the residential estates surrounding the Punggol Waterway. The Punggol Bus Interchange integrated within the development handles the bus network for the new town. Parking completes the multi-modal access infrastructure.
FCT manages Waterway Point within a suburban portfolio that also includes Causeway Point, Northpoint City, and Changi City Point. The Punggol Digital District development timeline is the key commercial variable: as the technology cluster grows around the adjacent site over the next decade, Waterway Point’s catchment will transition from a purely residential community mall to a mixed residential-professional destination, adding a fundamentally different visitor demographic and expanding the weekday daytime footfall base.
