Stadtgalerie Passau is a modern inner-city shopping gallery, with a sales area of ca. 21,000 sq m, 90 specialty shops on 3 levels and around 500 parking spaces, located in the heart of the city of Passau. It opened its doors on 10 September 2008.
The mall is centrally located on an optimally-integrated site in the very heart of the newly developed town quarter “Neue Mitte” (New Center) and it connects the traditional pedestrian zones Bahnhofstrasse and Ludwigstrasse. It is an outstanding best-practice example for the successful urban integration of a shopping center in the frame of district development in a small town.
A well-balanced retail mix with a focus on fashion in the mid-range price segment and a consumption-oriented approach is available in the mall. The key focus is given on the young fashion sector with brands like Esprit, edc, s’Oliver, only, Jack&Jones, Pimkie, Orsay, Quiksilver, Bench, Mustang, TomTailor. The retail mix of the Stadtgalerie complements and enriches the inner-city retail offer and has a significant positive impact on the appeal of the shopping town of Passau.
The Stadtgalerie is centrally located in the inner city. Like a vital joint, the Stadtgalerie provides a direct link between the traditional shopping streets of the pedestrian zone and the Bahnhofstrasse. The mall benefits from and excellent accessibility by car and public transportation.
A distinct urban planning feature is the outstanding integration of the modern shopping gallery into its historical urban environment: The new façade elements of perforated metal sheet reflect the varying color gradients of the historical buildings of the old town of Passau. The landmarked building Bahnhofstr was restored with great attention to detail and has been carefully integrated.
The façade of the Stadtgalerie Passau is a prototype and the award-winning layout of the renowned Munich-based architecture firm Auer and Weber. The façade is structured into differently colored segments with ten basic colors. The overall color picture of each segment is composed of different perforated metal sheets with varying hole sizes and hues ranging from light to dark. This results in a total of 200 color shades on the entire façade of the Stadtgalerie. In certain segments the mounted façade elements are back-lit, thus imitating the illuminated windows in the streetscape.
