SM City Bacoor

On July 25, 1997, SM Prime opened SM City Bacoor at the corner of General Emilio Aguinaldo Highway and Tirona Highway, marking the first SM Supermall in Luzon outside Metro Manila and the first major shopping mall in the Cavite province. The opening signaled the start of SM Prime’s provincial expansion strategy that would eventually place seven SM properties across Cavite alone. The five-level complex was a substantial investment in a province that, in the late 1990s, was just beginning the residential and industrial growth that would later define it as the Philippines’ most populous province.

The mall houses anchor tenants including The SM Store, SM Supermarket, Ace Hardware, and SM Appliance Center, with eight SM Cinema screens, a food court, and amusement areas distributed across the five levels. The vertical format on a relatively constrained site reflects the late-1990s SM template, which favored multi-storey complexes near major road junctions. Subsequent renovations have modernized the facade and updated the interior finishes while preserving the property’s distinctive role as a heritage anchor in Cavite’s retail history.

SM City Bacoor sits at one of Cavite’s most strategically important road intersections, the junction where the Aguinaldo Highway connects northern Cavite to Tagaytay and Batangas, and where the Tirona Highway provides east-west connectivity within the Bacoor-Imus-Dasmariñas urban triangle. The property serves a catchment that includes Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, and the eastern Las Piñas commuter flow into Cavite. Among Cavite’s seven SM properties, Bacoor remains the entry-point mall for residents and motorists arriving from Metro Manila via the Coastal Road or Aguinaldo Highway.
