The Rhein-Galerie is a shopping center in the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
With the opening of the new Rhein-Galerie, the city of Ludwigshafen has been given an attractive shopping and entertainment promenade with large power of attraction for the complete Rhine-Neckar region – a modern communication meeting place for leisure, culture, politics, and trade. ECE developed Rhein-Galerie in Ludwigshafen on a fallow area of the former Zollhofhafen harbour and connected the city center to the banks of the river Rhine for the first time.
The Galery offers a rich industry mix, fashion, perfumes, jewelry, accessories and a variety of restaurants, cafes and grocery stores. On an area of about 30,000 square meter there are 130 stores.
The Rhein Galerie is beautifully located on the banks of the Rhine.

The architectonic main body is characterized by the design topic water and river.
The most characteristic feature of the gallery is the membrane roof, which illuminates at night time. The wave-like rhythm of its lateral arches demonstrates the connection to the water. The elliptically formed rotundas allow the direct view to roof and sky from different heights and bring a lot of daylight into the building. Due to the elliptical atriums a sequence of squares and streets is created in the mall with a multi-storey spatial experience. The interior design concept is characterized by the idea of flow and movement. The thematic usage is reflected both in the style of the interior design as well as the chosen materials.
In terms of urban construction and architecture, the Rhine-Galerie creates a new cityscape of Ludwigshafen: the shopping center was constructed on the premises of the approx. 31 hectares large former Zollhofhafen (customs port building) in the north-eastern area of the city center at the Rheinuferstraße street. The enclosed Rhine promenade provides direct and attractive access to the Rhine from Ludwigshafen’s city center.
