Özdemir Boru Profil, a steel pipe and profile manufacturer in business since 1969, opened Özdemir Park on September 6, 2016 in Karadeniz Ereğli, a roughly 50 million lira investment that company head Fevzi Özdemir described as a 47-year family ambition finally realized. The mall sits on Erdemir Caddesi, the town’s busiest commercial street, named after Erdemir, the major steel plant that anchors the town’s economy.

At roughly 12,000 sqm of leasable space across four to five floors, Özdemir Park carries 52 stores, nine of them restaurants, and created an estimated 300 direct jobs in a town whose retail options had previously been limited to smaller-format stores. LC Waikiki, Mavi, Deichmann, Hummel and Colin’s anchor the fashion floor, drawing a catchment the developer estimated at close to 600,000 people across the wider Ereğli area.

The property brought Karadeniz Ereğli its first modern multiplex cinema, a roughly 2,000 sqm facility described at opening as the second such cinema in the wider region, alongside a dedicated children’s play area operated by Funny Day, a chain with 24 locations across 16 Turkish cities at the time.

That “47-year family dream” framing, from a company whose core business is industrial steel manufacturing rather than retail real estate, reflects a pattern common among Turkey’s smaller-city malls: often built by local industrial families diversifying into retail as a civic and commercial legacy project rather than by specialist mall developers.
