The terminal is conveniently located on the south side of the mall. Opened in 1973 as the John Galt Mall, Cambridge Centre began with 180,000 square feet of retail space. A $60 million-dollar expansion in 1986 nearly doubled the mall to 300,000 square feet. Co-owned by Glenarin Acres Ltd. and J.D.S. Investments, a new Sears Clearance Store and food court were added in 1990.
John Galt Mall was sold to Devan Properties and Hudson Bay Company Real Estate Ltd. in 1995 and re-named The Cambridge Centre. Expansion and renovation in 1996 added a Zellers and Bay department stores.
In 1997, The Cambridge Centre became a regional mall with the addition of a ten-screen movie theatre in 1998. In 2002, The Cambridge Centre was sold to the Morguard Real Estate Investment group who added 300,000 square feet of retail space and an NHL-sized ice rink.
$100 million dollars’ worth of expansions have brought The Cambridge Centre to 700,000 square feet. Newly renovated, The Cambridge Centre has over 140 shops and services including Sears, The Bay, Target, Galaxy Cinemas and a year-round NHL-sized ice rink open to the public.
The Cambridge Centre has a non-profit Community Kiosk available to all charities. Serving the shoppers of Cambridge, the mall is also involved in such initiatives as: The Great Strides Walking Club, and Konstructive Kids.
