The Gera-Arcaden as the largest shopping mall in Gera with a retail area of about 32.250 m² and a multi-storey car park with 1.300 parking lots forms the center of Gera´s street life. The shopping mall was originaly opened in 1998.
Due to changed requirements in the retail and shopping-center business the Gera-Arcaden was restructured and refurbished after ten years of operation. The refurbishment was done during full-time operation of all other shops. After the completion of works Gera Arcaden became a home to more than 90 retailers. Anchor tenants among others are the supermarket Kaufland and the electronic market ProMarkt as well as the swedish fashion group H&M. Among the tenants are Douglas, Kaufmarkt, C&A, Christ, dm-drogerie, Free Family, New Yorker and further specialists of the local and regional trade market.
The shopping center Gera-Arcaden is situated downtown of Gera, the third largest city in Thuringia, federal state of Germany, located in the central part of the country.
The mall is directly linked by bus and tram - stop Henry Street (Heinrichstraße).
The entire project is integrated into its inner city environment on the basis of new and also of time-proven architectural knowledge. Transparency, light and suitable materials are just a few of the maxims that are followed to create a friendly and welcoming ambience.The lighting that is done on the basis of a special concept puts both the shopping mall and the individual shops “ in a good light” at any time of day.
Visitors can easily move between levels by escalators and travelators. The flexible form of construction means that the units for the individual businesses can be structured individually with regard to size and layout and so adapted to suit different needs.
There are fashion and similar inner city shops in addition to round 90 shops with a high proportion serving short-term needs, all on a rental area of 30, 000 m²: a self-service shop on around 8, 000 m², two textile vendors on an area of around 4, 000 m² and a consumer electronics shop on around 3, 000 m². This mix of different sectors is rounded out by an attractive range of service providers and restaurants.
