British clothing brand Ben Sherman is reviving its retail chain as part of a three-year strategy to grow domestically. Two more stores may be added to the nine currently operating outlets by the end of the year.
“Stores are a big growth area for us, and we are currently exploring lease opportunities and various locations to relaunch the brand in the U.K. from a flagship brand perspective,” commented Marquee Brands, which owns Ben Sherman.
One flagship store is scheduled to open in London. In addition, the brand is considering opening a mono store in its hometown of Brighton. It was in this city that Ben Sherman launched in 1963.
“We want to create a specialty store for the brand, to emphasize fashion and bring that to consumers,” the company added, noting that both openings should take place this year. The new stores will be part of a plan to “balance the portfolio by increasing the number of the company’s flagship stores.”
Ben Sherman was forced to close all its mono-brand stores in the U.K. in 2020-2021, including London’s Carnaby Street and Liverpool One. The reason was a bankruptcy initiated by the brand’s licensee, the Baird Group. The retailer has nine stores, including Ashford, Cheshire Oaks, and Resorts World Birmingham.
New IKEA store will be the third City store in the UK, following IKEA Hammersmith and IKEA Oxford Street.
