Started a phased opening back in October 2019, the mall announced the start of work after seven months of downtime.
Due to restrictive measures associated with the coronavirus pandemic, American Dream megamall, located in New Jersey, was forced to postpone its opening. And if the first stage was held on October 25, 2019, when the ice rink and the amusement park were opened, the mall’s full start was always postponed. The last stage, assuming the start of 350 stores and more than 100 restaurants, was planned for March 2020, but the grand opening was prevented by the beginning of the pandemic.
Now the project manager, Triple Five company, has decided to start a full-fledged mall work. Its official opening took place on October 1, 2020. Against the background of the difficult situation that many shopping centers are in now, for Triple Five, which currently manages three malls in the U.S., the long-awaited mega-project launch was an important step. The company, which is already experiencing financial difficulties, plans to rectify the situation thanks to American Dream, which is expected to attract visitors despite the pandemic.
On an area of about 300,000 square meters, guests of the mega hall will be able to enjoy a variety of entertainment, including an ice rink, indoor ski slope, mini-golf course, and other areas of activity and recreation. And although American Dream relies on entertainment and family recreation, a wide range of retailers will be an essential factor in attracting customers.
Hundreds of stores have already been announced, including Zara, Lush, Primark, Aritzia, American Eagle, and many others. Retailers will start operating in stages, as well as the opening of restaurants and cafes. As for the luxury stores, a separate wing of the building has been allocated for them. Saks Fifth Avenue department store will start operating, and the mall will open Gucci, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton stores. However, this part of the mall will not begin working until March 2021.
In response to the pandemic, American Dream has taken several measures to ensure the safety of visitors and workers. Thus, the center’s capacity in the first phase will be limited to 25% to ensure social distance. Wearing facial masks is mandatory. An exception is made only for waterslides. Visitors to the Nickelodeon Universe theme park and DreamWorks water park will check the temperature with thermal scanners of the body. It also reported that the megamall reduced working hours.
