The famous “angels” Victoria’s Secret once made a name for the brand. The top models, personifying the ideals of beauty, in the brand’s underwear did not go off the covers of magazines. The brand has been criticized for imposing unrealistic standards of beauty and sexuality. This criticism has led to a decrease in interest in the brand by buyers, who prefer more inclusive brands.
Now it is known that Victoria’s Secret will say goodbye to the concept of “angels” and, following modern trends, will follow the path of redefining the beauty and sexuality of women. Instead of top models such as Elsa Hosk, Sara Sampaio, or Behati Prinsloo, the advertising campaigns and shows of the brand will involve women whose achievements are not only in modeling.
It includes actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, famous soccer player Megan Rapinoe, freestyle skier Eileen Gu, lawyer Paloma Essler, transgender model Valentina Sampaio, and several others. The women who will be involved in the advertising campaigns of the new generation will no longer be called “angels,” but simply VS Collective. With their help, the brand intends to fit into the changed reality and become more inclusive, focusing on women’s preferences rather than what men want them to be.
For the first time, “angels,” who traditionally wore decorative wings along with underwear, took to the runway during Victoria’s Secret collection in 1998. Over the years, they included many famous supermodels such as Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, Candice Sweynpol, Helena Christensen, Leticia Casta, Miranda Kerr, etc. Among the “angels” who visited quite a few of the world’s highest-paid models, they were such a unique phenomenon that they even earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
