TK Maxx was launched in 1994, introducing off-price retailing to the United Kingdom and Ireland. Currently, TK Maxx is the only brick-and-mortar, an off-price retailer in the United Kingdom dealing in apparel and home fashions.
TK Maxx is part of the TJX Companies, Inc. that was started back in 1919 by two brothers Max and Morris Feldberg. The duo founded a company called the New England Trading Company in Boston, Massachusetts. The business soon grew into a chain store for women’s apparel from New England to Washington D.C.
In 1994, the company launched its off-price concept to the retail market in the United Kingdom and then to Ireland. This was instrumental in making TK Maxx become Europe’s largest off-price retailer. The TK Maxx concept is similar to TJ Maxx and offers excellent value on family apparel, women’s footwear, lingerie, jewelry, accessories and home fashions.
TK Maxx has over 370 stores all over the UK and offers excellent products for everyone. In 2008, TK Maxx introduced HomeSense “across the pond” to the UK market by opening seven new stores. According to the company, TK Maxx and HomeSense have the capability to grow to 875 stores with its existing chain stores in their current market value over time.
