As the modern retail offer has developed, shopping centres have opened along highways, moving retail from the city centre to the outskirts of the city. With 245 sq m of shopping centre space per 1,000 inhabitants, Ankara is the most dense retail market in Turkey, followed by Istanbul. Ankara has witnessed a rapid change in its major retail streets, such as Filistin Sokak and Arjantin Caddesi, as these streets have become major leisure hubs of the city. Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi, which is one of the busiest retail streets in the city, remains an important retail destination with the entrance of international brands. Eskişehir Road is Ankara’s densest retail sub-market, hosting a number of large shopping centres.
