Italian premium menswear brand Stone Island has opened its new store on the Chinese resort island of Hainan. The mono store was designed by architecture studio OMA/AMO, which previously worked with Stone Island on the launch of a new concept store in Chicago.
The new store has opened surrounded by other international brands in the Sanya Duty Free mall, in the center of the island’s tourist scene. The opening is an opportunity for the brand to offer its products to Chinese consumers after the long-awaited lifting of retail restrictions in the country.
Stone Island leases 180 square meters in the famous mall’s duty-free zone. A giant digital screen at the store entrance broadcasts the brand’s visuals.
The store’s interior uses concrete, stone, sandblasted cork, and corrugated steel, identifying the brand’s futuristic style. Most of the shelving, in keeping with the concept developed, is modular and allows for the modification of different ideas. The store already features the brand’s latest collections.
For Stone Island, which opened a flagship store in Chicago a year ago, this is another important step in international expansion with the launch of physical stores in iconic locations. In the future, the company is considering opening stores in Seoul, Stockholm, and Munich.
