Starbucks coffee shops have long and willingly used themselves not only as a place to drink a cup of coffee but also as a kind of workspace, where you can spend productive time with a notebook or laptop. For a while, the company tried even to fight it but then decided that it was more accurate to provide people with a more comfortable environment, which would give them an excuse to come more often and order more. Coffee shops around the world began to have even more outlets and a more comfortable place to work.
But in Japan, the Starbucks management went even further, deciding to open a full-fledged coworking space, the main feature of which will be the ability to order a cup of the famous coffee and various snacks. The experimental space was called the Smart Lounge. The idea was worked on by specialists from the consulting company Think Lab Co.
The cafe and coworking center is located in Tokyo’s Ginza quarter, known for its trading activity. It has meeting places, separate tables, and individual cabins. If necessary, a visitor can even book a place in advance.
The Smart Lounge is an experimental facility, and it depends on how successful this format will be, and whether Starbucks will open such a co-op. Taking into account how popular the remote work has become today, there is a high probability that café and co-workings will appear in other countries as well.
