The coronavirus pandemic proved to be a particular challenge for cinemas. For a long time, they were closed, and when they opened, they could not operate at full capacity due to some restrictions. At the same time, the number of films being shot has dropped sharply.

South Korean chain CGV found an unexpected way out of the situation. They have decided to rent empty halls to gamers who want to play their favorite games on the massive screens. The network rightly reasoned that modern games are very much like movies, and many will enjoy a similar experience.

A two-hour session for a team of four will cost $90, as long as they rent out the room before 6 p.m. Later in the day, the price goes up to $135. Of course, it’s not comparable to the profits that the network could receive from showing movies. Still, after all, the halls are empty, and such a solution allows at least a little but earnings. The console and games, by the way, you need to bring with you.

It is reported that since the launch of the service, it has been used more than 130 times. The majority of visitors were men aged 30-40 years. Often couples and even entire families came to play. It can be assumed that the number of those who want to play their favorite game on the cinema screen will only increase over time.

It should be noted that CGV is not the first cinema chain to have decided to offer its services to gamers. For example, earlier such service can be used by the visitors of the American Malco Theatres. In this case, the rent cost does not depend on the time of day and is $ 100 for 2 hours if you want, you can rent the room for 3 hours for $ 150.
