South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung Electronics announced the creation of a competition for creative projects using cardboard boxes from TVs. The partner of the contest is the British magazine about design and architecture Dezeen. The money prize for the authors of the best works will be 20 thousand dollars.
According to the terms of the contest, everyone over 18 years old will be able to take part in it. To send an application, you need to create a piece of furniture or home accessory from a cardboard box, without using specialized equipment. The application must include a description of the concept, as well as assembly instructions and an image of the resulting object. Optionally, you can also attach a video or animation showing the assembly process.
The project is an environmentally responsible initiative aimed at encouraging consumers to reuse the carton boxes. In January 2020, Samsung introduced the first eco-packaging for the TV series The Serif, The Frame, and The Sero. The boxes are being put together so that consumers can make a magazine rack, a shelf for household items, or a cat house out of them. The packaging has distinctive markings on it, allowing to cut it for the production of various objects, as well as a QR code with a link to the assembly instructions.
The company received the CES 2020 Innovation Awards for its unique eco-packaging concept. It is known that the projects, which will be included by the jury of the competition into the final list, will be created using this series of packages. Samsung will use the best works in the development of packaging for interior TVs.
