Kingfisher is a public limited company, and it is the largest home improvement retailer not just in the United Kingdom and also in Europe, and also the third largest retailer in the world (next to The Home Depot and Lowe’s). Kingfisher has more than 1,030 stores in eight countries across Europe and Asia. Some of Kingfisher’s brands include Castorama, B&Q, Screwfix and Brico Depot.
Kingfisher was started in 1982 after Paternoster Stores Ltd., bought the British Woolworths, and whose name was later changed to Woolworth Holding Plc. Kingfisher grew and expanded through other acquisitions of the company like; Comet, B&Q, and Superdrug. Kingfisher went on to further acquire European companies like BUT S.A., Castorama, and Weigert which made Kingfisher become the largest retailer in the United Kingdom.
