The Historical Characters line of 18-inch dolls were originally the primary focus of Pleasant Company. This product line tries to teach aspects of American history through a six-book series from the perspective of a 9- to an 11-year-old girl living in that period. Although the books signed for an eight to the twelve-year-old target audience, they try to cover essential topics such as child labor, child abuse, poverty, racism, slavery, animal abuse, and the war in manners appropriate for the understanding and responsiveness of their young audience.
