Retail in Brazil boosted by World Cup and Olympic Games

Huge sporting events set to take place in Brazil, such as the FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, are set to have a huge positive effect on consumer behavior.

International retailers are fully aware of this impact. This has made the current time the best for foreign retail brands to enter the Brazilian market as the local consumer will be able to gain direct access to those international brands that were once only available abroad.
According to Roberto Somekh, the Leasing Director of Multiplan, a company which currently manages 18 malls inside the country, the retail estate market has seen rapid growth, even for luxury goods consumers. He stated that Brazil is gaining attention from foreign retailers who are looking to develop their brands and open stores in Brazil
