Super Nintendo World will be the world's second park after opening in Japan in 2021.
Universal Studios Hollywood is preparing to open its first Super Nintendo World theme park in the United States. The official opening in Los Angeles will take place on Feb. 17, two months before the release of the feature-length The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Super Nintendo World will be the world's second park after opening in Japan in 2021. Universal notes that the theme park will transport Nintendo fans to the world of "Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach to be part of their exciting universe."
The main attraction of the new theme park will be the racing simulator Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge. It will be the only major attraction when it opens, allowing visitors to try out individual race courses with their favorite characters. In addition, themed stores and restaurants will open on the grounds of the park.
Universal describes the immersive Super Nintendo World experience as "a visual spectacle of vibrant colors and architectural ingenuity located within a newly-expanded area of the theme park, featuring a groundbreaking ride and interactive areas."
The partnership between Universal Creative and Nintendo began in 2015 when the first theme park based on the game giant's popular franchises was conceived. A second Universal Studios park in Florida is also under development, but a possible opening date has yet to be announced.
