The ranking for 2018 was led by two Westfield shopping malls in the London metropolitan area.
British analytic digital agency GlobalData presented its own rating of the best operating UK shopping centers. The table of ranks led by Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush. The object received 4.09 points out of five possible. Another shopping center of the international network Westfield, located on the mixed-use complex development territory in London Stratford City, ranked second with a score of 3.98 points. The top five malls for 2018 are completed by Kent’s Bluewater (3.63), Intu Trafford (3.44) and Intu Lakeside (3.40).
GlobalData Top UK Shopping Centers became the first rating based on a general survey among owners of commercial properties, real estate experts and buyers. In the survey, each object was assessed according to four main parameters: operational performance, five-year development potential, loyalty programs, innovative services, and entertainment, as well as customer satisfaction.
According to Joseph Robinson, director of retail consulting at GlobalData, despite the fact that the top three malls are located in London and in the southeast, the top twenty sites perfectly reflect the picture of the quality distribution of the best sites across the country. By the way, in the top ten, only the first two lines occupied the mall from the Greater London metropolitan area.
According to the study, it was also revealed that in total British buyers spend in the top 50 shopping centers about 17.4 billion pounds sterling per year, which is almost 5% of all household spending in retail, catering, and entertainment.
In the next five years, in the UK it is planned to open only one landmark shopping center in Yorkshire to build a mall under the Axiom brand. In the near future, experts predict a possible reconstruction or expansion of existing shopping centers Intu Watford, Edinburgh St James, Intu Lakeside and Intu Trafford Center.
