Revamp for oldest shopping center in Denmark

Rødovre Centrum shopping center in the Greater Copenhagen suburbs has chosen the design by Årstiderne Arkitekter, for its facelift.

This particular architect’s firm was chosen by the family-owned shopping center over seven other firms to bring its plans to light.

The head of the shopping center, Jesper Andreasen, said a final decision on certain issues has not yet been made, but they have received some exciting proposals.  Their aim is to provide 1000 extra parking spaces and to expand the shopping space of the center.

The cost of the short-term plans is due to cost about 250 million kroner.  

The long-term vision for the center still requires approval from the local council, but it moves ahead to 2035 with the inclusion of a massive expansion of the shopping area, a number of residential spaces, and a potential hotel tower in one of the corners.

Rødovre Centrum was established during 1966 and is known as the oldest center within Denmark.  It has undergone expansion five times during the course of its history and currently offers shoppers more than 130 stores, a Magasin warehouse, a cinema, doctor’s offices, health clinics and business offices.
