Paris has been hailed as the world’s hottest retail market. France has been ranked as the leading country for all new entrants.
Paris has gained popularity among cities which retailers find most attractive. It welcomed 50 new entrants, including 10 new Business & Luxury Fashion Brands. The city gained from three new shopping centres during 2013, but most global brands were attracted by the prime high street locations. Competition on the high streets is fierce among luxury brands, due to the high demand from tourists, particularly from China.
Bucharest took 16th place in the ranking of markets targeted by retailers, with 21 new entrants being recorded. The new entries were ranked by new shopping centre opening, and the new and redevelopment leases obtained. The bulk of the new entrants occurred in shopping centres. Bucharest has 28.2% of the retailer representation, placing it 49th globally.
Tokyo has taken second spot as the most attractive city for global retailers. This has boosted confidence in Japan’s economic prospects. Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi were placed third and fourth.
London has taken top spot for the most international brands.
