The iconic store will close after 14 years of operation.
The iconic New York City shoe store NikeLab 21 Mercer, which embodied the early culture of fashionable sneakers, will close after 14 years of operation. News outlets report that the retail space has lost its former glory and popularity in recent years.
NikeLab 21 Mercer, which opened in 2008 in SoHo, remained one of the iconic places for fans of fashionable sports shoes for many years - it hosted numerous sporting events and themed exhibitions. In 2016, the Nike Soho flagship store opened nearby, after which traffic began to inexorably decline.
NikeLab 21 Mercer is rumored to finally close to customers as early as January 2023 after the lease on the space expires. Nike has decided not to enter into a new contract, given the relatively low popularity of the monostore. Store employees will be relocated to other locations throughout New York City.
