The decision to close could be linked to criticism about the working conditions of store employees.
Los Angeles-based cosmetics and beauty manufacturer Morphe Cosmetics will close all its retail stores in the United States. The company has decided to change its development strategy and focus on e-commerce and wholesale.
The decision to close could be linked to criticism about the working conditions of store employees. "We have made the difficult decision to close all Morphe stores in the U.S. We are forever grateful to our store teams for their passion, talent, and dedication over the years.", the company commented.
At the beginning of 2023, the retail chain of Morphe Cosmetics had 18 stores in the U.S. The brand will retain stores in the U.K., Canada, and Australia after closing a portion of its business.
The brand was founded in 2008 and initially specialized in the digital retail direct-to-consumer distribution of beauty and personal care products using partnerships with social media influencers.
The company said in a statement that sales of cosmetics and personal care products would continue on the official website and at partners in the ordinary course. In addition, retail business outside of the U.S. will be fully maintained.
