Luxury boutiques return to Chinese airports

Eight luxury stores, including Chanel and Gucci, opened at Chinese airports, signaling the tourist retail market's resumption of activity.

International retail operator Lagardère Travel Retail opened eight trendy boutiques at two of China's busiest airports, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shenzhen Airport.

The six stores opening at Hongqiao Airport include Chanel Boutique, which offers beauty products and a wide variety of branded accessories. The boutique was the first French brand store opened at the China domestic airport terminal.

Tourists can also visit Givenchy Boutique, the brand's first cosmetics and perfume store opened at the Chinese airport. Shiseido Boutique is the first Japanese brand store at China's domestic airport, and Sandro Boutique, the world's first Paris brand store, opened at the airport. Besides, the small stores Parfums Christian Dior and Gucci, which sell fashion jewelry and watches, have also earned their income.

As for Shenzhen airport, the Cartier and Burberry stores, which offer high-quality jewelry, watches, and accessories, have been opened here. 

The opening of new luxury stores signals a return to domestic air travel within China following the pandemic's negative impact and a significant increase in local consumption, especially in the luxury goods segment.
