IKEA has launched its As-is service, allowing customers to order used furniture.
IKEA has launched its As-is service, allowing customers to order used furniture. The service operates online and is available to IKEA Family customers. By ordering used furniture online, customers can receive it at their nearest store within 48 hours. The company said that furniture put up for sale under the As-is program undergoes a pre-sale inspection and includes a guarantee of safety and functionality. Discontinued items also participate in the program.
Items are posted on the IKEA website with photos, descriptions of condition and prices. The transaction can be refused if the characteristics do not match the buyer's estimate in the store. Nevertheless, the return policy does not apply to used goods.
The Swedish giant is implementing the new service as part of the development of its sustainability program. The company has already stated its intention to provide a circular business by 2030. The service to buy back and resell used furniture was tested in the U.S. in 2021 when the first furniture center in Philadelphia was connected to the program.
“This Earth Month marks an exciting time for Ikea U.S. as we continue to make sustainable attainable for the many people. As-is online joins our other services like Buy Back & Resell and the spare parts program that help our customers live a more sustainable life at home with a variety of ways to prolong the life of their furniture,” Javier Quiñones, CEO and chief sustainability officer at Ikea U.S., said in a statement.
