Some new features introduced by the application include the ability to navigate on the map inside large shopping malls.
Google's Maps service actively develops its maps for a more accurate display of urban landscapes. A completely new feature is available to users - they can use maps in the streets and large premises.
Modern shopping centers resemble small cities in their scale, and it is not difficult to get lost in their shopping galleries and entertainment areas. So the ability to run the map on your smartphone to get instructions on how to find the right location in a large room will be advantageous.
Directly inside the maps themselves, users can apply the Live View feature, which actively uses augmented reality. With its help, you can determine the mall's current location and find what you need, such as the nearest exit, restrooms, ATM.
The app will need to use your smartphone's camera. After determining where the user is, the system will show the path to the correct location with arrows and hints on the screen. It is noteworthy that the application works even in multi-story shopping centers, if necessary, prompting the user to go up or down to another floor of the mall.
The new option is already available for Google Maps apps on iOS and Android. But it is true that so far only visitors of some shopping centers in major U.S. cities will be able to navigate inside large malls. But the company promises to expand the geography of the new option, and shortly, it is planned to support it in significant airports and transit stations in different countries.
