The store on the corner of 5th Avenue and Marion Street in Seattle will close its doors to customers.
Amazon continues to close its Amazon Go technology stores. This week, it was announced that the outlet on the corner of 5th Avenue and Marion Street in Seattle would close its doors to customers.
Amazon Go in Seattle was only the second outlet of the new retail project. The store offers a contactless experience and was launched in August 2018. Amazon Go entered 2023 with big problems.
In the spring, the company announced the forced closure of eight stores at once - four in San Francisco and two each in New York and Seattle. In addition, the development of Amazon Fresh grocery stores has been suspended since the beginning of the year.
After the latest closure, the Amazon Go retail chain will have just 22 stores with locations in four states. The last opening was earlier this year in Puyallup, Washington, after which a decision was made to downsize the chain.
According to some reports, the closure in Seattle is due to a decline in office staffing following the proliferation of a remote work program after the pandemic. However, Amazon Go says new openings will follow, with a choice of more appropriate locations and a preference for a larger format.
