Auchan strengthens in France

Auchan has shown revenue growth in the French market for the first time in nine years.

French grocery retailer Auchan reports growth in key operating indicators in its home market. The company is actively investing in prices, attracting new audiences. In doing so, the retailer is temporarily sacrificing its margins.



Auchan has shown revenue growth in the French market for the first time in nine years. Classic hypermarkets also showed good figures - comparable sales growth was 2.4%. This is higher than in previous years and more than at Carrefour. The company also reported increased traffic and a return to hypermarkets of about 250,000 customers.

Auchan's sales in 2022 increased by 2.9%, excluding new openings, to 32.8 billion euros. Investment in business development last year increased by 30%, and the EBITDA margin decreased by 8.2%.

Auchan plans to follow a new strategy in 2023. In addition, the retailer completed a deal to buy more than 230 Dia stores in Spain and invested in developing a partnership with the service Ocado in Poland. Despite the current sanctions, Auchan continues to operate in Russia, which has also shown strong operating performance in recent years.
