The Chapman Taylor Düsseldorf office, along with the CEMAGG GmbH, the investor, have been announced as winners of a competition for a new shopping center in Weil am RheinWeil am Rhein, a German town placed close to where the Swiss and French borders meet.
The center will be called "Dreiländergalerie", which in translation is "Three Countries Gallery", being reflective of its geographical base. This name and the idea of having a turning loop at the end of the new tram line from Basel, the Swiss town next door, shows that it hopes to target customers from across the border.
The center will be built into a steep site that has a 15 meter drop, known by locals as the "Hangkante" (Edge of Slope). It will offer shoppers 3 retail levels, with a kindergarten placed on the roof, and two lower levels of car parking for 550 cars. Its total GBA will be approximately 55000m².
