The new Segway SE-3 Patroller, with three wheels, has been designed for mall cops. The new model has dropped the two-wheel, auto-balancing systems for a robust and stable three-wheeler. It is ideal for police officers and mall cops who require extra storage and stability.
They will also gain respect from this rather intimidating model. It has been difficult for police officers to be feared as they go around on dainty Segways. At least this model looks the part for serious police work.
The Segway did not change the world in the ways Dean Kamen, the creator, promised. People are not zipping around on auto-balancing devices in car-less cities. The product has made it into niche markets, such as security forces and city tours.
The new model retails for $11999. It is powered by several rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries which can be charged at all standard electrical power points. This model is very easy to use and offers a small turning radius, but it will probably not replace traditional Segways.
