About this mall

The Simmering retail site traces back to the 1970s, when Munich wholesaler Jost Hurler opened a multi-format market known locally as “HuMa” (an abbreviation of Hurler Magazin), converted into a proper shopping center in 1987. SES Spar European Shopping Centers and the Hurler family group demolished that aging property entirely between 2013 and 2015 and rebuilt it from the ground up, reopening in March 2016 under a new name, huma eleven, a deliberate homage to Vienna’s 11th district rather than a continuation of the old HUMA brand.

Chapman Taylor Düsseldorf designed the new building around a Danube river theme, with floor patterns evoking river islands and gravel banks, a 200 sqm indoor water feature and a 4.5-metre water curtain as the property’s signature design element. The center expanded again in 2017 to reach its current 50,000 sqm GLA and roughly 90 stores, making it one of Vienna’s larger district-level shopping centers.

Interspar anchors the grocery floor, with MediaMarkt carrying electronics and H&M, New Yorker and TK Maxx running the fashion and off-price floor. Hervis and JYSK round out the sports and home-goods tenant mix, and Thalia’s Simmering store marked the district’s first branch of that book-and-media chain when it opened alongside the center’s 2016 relaunch.

Positioned directly off the A4 motorway’s Simmeringer Haide interchange and connected by free shuttle bus to the U3 metro line, huma eleven competes for Vienna’s outer-district shoppers against the city’s larger inner-ring malls on convenience and free parking (2,000-plus spaces) rather than on luxury tenant density, a positioning the property has held consistently across both its old HUMA identity and the current rebrand.
