Media company BuzzFeed will open its own retail “news stores” at airports across the United States. The first openings will take place in New York City as early as spring 2022.
BuzzFeed will offer its customers magazines and newspapers, travel accessories, snacks, health and beauty products, and lifestyle items. Monitors installed around the perimeter of the retail space will broadcast news and entertainment programming, as well as local business advertising.
“In all areas, such as food, news, pop culture and commerce, BuzzFeed is on message and inspiring audiences. The dynamic partnership (with airports) will leverage BuzzFeed’s knowledge of consumers to enhance its sales strategy,” the company’s press office commented.
Industrial construction and design company Stellar, a partner in the project, promises to “reimagine newsstands” and offer travelers a new, modern format. To date, the company already operates more than 100 stores with locations in twenty U.S. airports.
BuzzFeed, for its part, says it will use its own data and research to provide consumers on the road with the most popular and relevant products.
