The unique shop was opened in 2006. Its entrance in the form of a huge glass cube (originally it was built of 90 pieces of glass, which in 2011 were replaced by 15 large panels) has already entered the history of architecture as an example of great design, as well as the glass staircase, leading to the lower commercial space. But two years ago the store was closed, it was reported that as a result of the repair, it would receive not only an updated design but also a significantly increased size. Apple worked on the renovation together with the architectural company Foster + Partners.
The external part remained almost unchanged, the glass cube, which is significant for New York City, remained recognizable. But there are more surprises inside the guests. The new shop, as promised by Apple, has become almost twice as large. And it means not only more possibilities for design, but also the throughput of the shop which has grown in times. Here will be placed the maximum possible number of products as the company itself and third party manufacturers, producing accessories for Apple products.
The Genius Bar section, designed for consultation and communication with technical support specialists, has doubled in size. Here it is called Genius Grove, has green walls and two rows of trees indoors.
Now the retail space has higher ceilings and is better illuminated due to a large number of spotlights. The glass staircase, the hallmark of the store, has now been replaced by a stainless steel spiral staircase with a glass side, which immediately attracts the attention of every visitor with its unusual design.

The shop has space for various events, plus two Boardrooms where Apple specialists will meet with business clients, designers, and artists and hold private meetings.
The space around it has also changed. The area in front of the entrance is now equipped with 62 luminous circles. Some of them are raised, giving extra seating space, and form a ring of large lanterns around the glass cube, making this lighting solution particularly impressive at night.
After the Apple 5th Avenue upgrade, it became the largest Apple store in the world. The shop is open at any time and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
