American retailers have begun preparing for possible protests and pogroms, which are expected after the presidential election on November 3, 2020. Many companies have started installing fences and tightening security measures.
According to Axios portal, in Los Angeles, Rodeo Drive Street in the Beverly Hills district, which is considered the most extensive luxury store in the city, will be completely closed to visitors on November 3 and 4 for fear of protests.
Owners of Macy’s in New York City and Chicago have already installed barricades on their store windows. Fashion house Tiffany also reported the intention to protect stores from pogroms – showcases will be blocked during elections in major cities. Saks Fifth store chain and other retailers also plan to secure their stores this week, waiting for possible protests.
U.S. retailers faced a wave of store pogroms in May this year when Black Lives Matter movement spread widely across the country. The riots lasted several weeks. Radical protesters robbed stores and smashed store windows, causing more than $1 billion in damage.
