The online retailer has introduced smart Dash Carts, which recognize products and automatically charge money from the customer’s card.
Smart baskets Dash Carts use technology for cashless payments Just Walk Out, first deployed in stores like Amazon Go, reports CNBC. In these stores, there are no sellers or cashiers: buyers only need to select products and leave – the money will be charged from the card at the time of exit. The opening of a store in Los Angeles with such baskets is scheduled for 2020.
To use a shopping cart, you need an Amazon account and a smartphone. In the store, users scan a QR code in the retailer’s app and then place the products in the shopping cart, while Alexa’s virtual assistant generates a shopping list.
Each cart is equipped with a computer vision camera for product identification and built-in scales. To buy fruits and vegetables, you need to enter a four-digit code along with the number of products on display. Baskets also have scanners for discount coupons.
Trolleys are designed for small purchases – one or two bags of products. The display on the front panel of the shopping cart adjusts the total price of the goods as they are added. At the exit, Dash Cart withdraws money from the buyer’s card attached to your Amazon account and sends an email receipt.
Despite the cameras and sensors, the smart cart looks normal, says Dilip Kumar, vice president of retail and technology at Amazon. “We try to hide the complexity from customers so that you don’t have to change your shopping behavior,” explains Kumar. – Once you’ve logged in with your phone, you can clean it up and shop as you did before.
