The change of power in the Afghan capital Kabul led to chaos and the closure of businesses. News agencies reported that as of August 15, stores of all types, shopping centers, services, and other facilities were shut down en masse in the city.
At the same time, local sources report that residents of Kabul leave their homes when traffic jams occur at exits from the city. Men in military uniforms patrol some streets in the Afghan capital.
“Everyone is scared because they don’t know what’s going to happen next. The state can’t say anything. They say there will be some state and an interim government,” CNN quotes a resident as saying.
August 15 was declared a historic date in the history of Afghanistan by the international media. The day before, the Taliban movement had entered the capital without a fight and seized power, raising its flag over the presidential palace. Ghani, the current head of state, fled the country.
After the change of power, the country saw the departure of diplomatic officials from various countries. Representatives of Western powers called for keeping the country’s borders open to allow those who want to leave. The situation in the country began to change drastically after the withdrawal of U.S. troops, which had been on its territory for 20 years.
