A grocery delivery service using crewless vehicles has gone live in Silicon Valley since December 1, 2021.
International grocery retailer 7-Eleven will launch a delivery service in California using driverless cars. The retailer’s partner in the new project is Nuro, specializing in creating autonomous vehicles.
According to the portal TechCrunch, by December 1, 2021, grocery delivery services using self-driving vehicles will be available in Silicon Valley. Orders are taken through the 7NOW app and are delivered from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The app notifies customers of the order’s delivery status.
Deliveries are made in R2 vehicles, special units without steering wheels, pedals, or side mirrors. In the future, Nuro expects to deliver cars for passenger transportation.
Earlier it became known that Nuro had attracted an investment of 600 million euros, which will be used to expand commercial projects. After that, a partnership was announced with the 7-Eleven chain of stores. In December 2020, Nuro became the first company to use driverless cars on roads in California.
