The Body Shop International PLC, also known as The Body Shop was founded in the United Kingdom in 1976. The company was started by Anita Roddick and is currently part-owned by the L’Oreal Corporate Group. Body Shop has a huge range of over 1200 products including cosmetics, with over 2,500 franchised stores in 61 countries.
The original Body Shop was housed in a garage in Berkeley, California when Anita Roddick visited the place in 1970. The shop sold naturally scented lotions and soaps and was called The Body Shop. The shop in the US was run by Peggy Short and Jane Saunders. Six years later, Anita Roddick opened a similar shop in the UK with the same business name, colour and cosmetic lines. Since its launch in the UK in 1976, The Body Shop grew rapidly, expanding at a rate of 50% annually. In 1987, Anita Roddick offered Peggy Short and Jane Saunders $3.5 million to change the name of their shop in the US to "Body Time".
The Body Shop has an impressive collection of exquisite products for the body. Some of the products include bath and body care, hand care, make-up, men’s toiletries, skincare, fragrances, gifts and much more. The Body Shop offers a wide selection of products for the body, hair, face and home. According to the company the products are “inspired by nature”, and include ingredients like sesame seed oil and marula oil.
