Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield laid the foundation stone for Westfield Hamburg, located in Überseequartier.
It's one of the primary and most innovative mixed-use areas in Europe, and Hamburg’s most significant development project. This multifunctional area will be called Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, combining the power of an international brand, famous for its flagship areas and unforgettable impressions, as well as a strong local heritage.
This ambitious project creates a new space of 14 buildings with a total area of 419,000 square meters, which combines accommodations, 650 apartments, offices for more than 4,000 workers, leisure and entertainment, restaurants (more than 40 spots), shopping (about 200 retail stores), three hotels (about 830 rooms) and a cruise terminal, which makes Hamburg a favorite destination for German and foreign tourists. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield collaborated with renowned local and international architects such as Christian de Portzamparc, Carsten Roth Architekt, and UNStudio, as well as Saguez & Partners to develop the interior design.
First Mayor and President of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Peter Schencher, said: “With Überseequartier in HafenCity, there is an open and vibrant urban space with shops, cafes, restaurants, offices, and apartments. The new area is easily accessible to the inhabitants of Hamburg by subway, and probably many tourists will visit it after the completion of the cruise terminal. ”
Christophe Cuvillier, CEO of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, stated: “With this new project, we will provide a future-oriented, sustainable district to Hamburg and will create a vibrant spot in this dynamic city. This project will benefit from the power of the internationally recognized Westfield brand alongside a strong local heritage. Well-connected and open to its direct environment, Überseequartier will bring visitors and local communities together, with the ambition to meet the highest environmental standards.”
